I Am Not Harvesting My Crop For Grain. What Do I Do?

If you are not intending to harvest your crop (it’s too poor to combine, it needs to be destroyed for development, etc), or you are not harvesting the crop for grain (silage, beanlage, etc), it is important that you call your agent before you do anything. Your crop is required to be appraised for a claim before it is destroyed or chopped. The adjuster typically calls you within 2 business days to discuss the loss and how you should proceed. Please make sure that you wait to destroy or harvest “not for grain” until your adjuster talks with you, or you may lose claim dollars on that ground. You may also receive a zero production for the year on that ground’s 10 year crop insurance history, which can affect future crop insurance guarantees on that farm and any added ground.
